This publication is a quite basic introduction to the subject of law and grace and its implications for issues of conscience.

Here is what it is not.

• It is not a work that takes account of the recent research and debate on “The New Perspective on Paul”, which like Jesus research, places Paul in the relatively recently understood context of Second Temple Judaism. This must await a different publication. However, it would be misleading were I not to say that the way law and grace is approached in this publication lacks quite an edge as a result of not taking such developments into account. Basically it reflects classical Protestant Evangelical teaching on the subject, an approach that does need to be modified, or at least nuanced, by more recent research. Yet one should also day that some of the presentations of the “new perspective” have overstated how much the traditional Protestant Evangelical approach needs to be modified.
• It is not a work that joins the dots between the kingdom teaching of Jesus in the Gospels and Paul’s teaching on grace. That is reflected in The Kingdom Reformation.
